DIPTYCH ReResearch
During the middle ages people painted and carved diptychs. People used the pieces as altarpieces and for private devotional purposes. Altarpieces are pieces of artwork used as relief representation of a religious subject that is made to be placed behind the altar at a church. Early days of the christian church they would carve the names of people who need to be prayed to. The diptychs were called “diptychs of the living and the dead”.
They carved the names of the outstanding christians. Some of the names were of bishops of the local church who died in faith. As time went on the list grew on. Most of the names were from the local church yet they made room for more people who were not local. If someone commits a sin the name is removed.
